Privacy Policy
At Unspike, your privacy is a priority, not an afterthought. This policy explains exactly what data we collect, why we collect it, and how you can control it.
The short version: We never sell your data. Spike estimates are calculated on your device. We only collect what's necessary to make the app work.
1. Information we collect
When you use Unspike, we may collect the following types of information:
- Account information: your email address if you choose to create an account.
- Food scan history: the foods you scan and view within the app, if you choose to save them.
- Camera access: temporary access to your camera to capture barcodes. Images are processed immediately and are not stored.
- Device information: operating system version, device type, and app version, used to diagnose bugs and improve performance.
- Anonymous usage analytics: aggregate, non-identifiable data about how features are used, to help us improve the app.
2. How we use your information
We use your data solely to:
- Provide and improve the Unspike app and its features
- Respond to support inquiries
- Send product updates and announcements (only if you opt in)
- Analyze anonymous, aggregate usage trends to guide product decisions
3. We do not sell your data
We never sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties for marketing or advertising purposes. Period.
4. Health and blood sugar data
Unspike does not collect or store actual blood glucose readings. Spike estimates are computed locally on your device using nutritional data and are not transmitted to our servers unless you explicitly save them to your account. We treat any health-adjacent data with the highest level of care.
5. Data storage and security
Your data is stored using industry-standard encryption both in transit (TLS) and at rest. We use reputable, GDPR-compliant cloud infrastructure providers. We limit access to your personal data to only those who need it to operate the service.
6. Third-party services
We use a limited number of trusted third-party services for cloud hosting, authentication, and analytics. These providers are contractually required to protect your data and may not use it for their own purposes. We do not share your personal data with advertisers.
7. Your rights
You have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate information
- Request deletion of your account and associated data
- Opt out of marketing communications at any time
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at contact@unspike.co. Requests are processed within a reasonable timeframe.
8. Children's privacy
Unspike may be used by minors under parental supervision. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent. Parents or guardians may request deletion of a child's data by contacting us.
9. California residents (CCPA)
We do not sell or share personal information. California residents may request disclosure or deletion of their data by contacting us at contact@unspike.co.
10. EU and UK users (GDPR)
For users in the EEA or UK, data is processed on the basis of consent (account creation) and legitimate interests (operating and securing the app). Data may be processed in the United States or other locations where our service providers operate.
